Thanks to all who have commented.  In the area where this was taken is
a very large beaver pond.  There are cattails and trees lining the
pond, as well as scattered throughout the pond.  So if you are a pond
level, you really can't see much.  There is a hill on one side when
you can get a better vantage point.  It does take you quite far away
from the pond - hence the need for the 400mm lens.  For this
particular scene, there was only one spot, right at the top of the
hill where this log and creatures were visible.  The cattails couldn't
be moved as they were quite far away.  I tried moving up, down and
across the hill to get any better views, but this was as good as could
be had.  Certainly many shots were taken, but I liked the body
positions of the ducks in this one best (the turtles didn't move too
much).
