Ken, A little over a year ago I purchased the R320. From what I can tell, the R220 and R320 have more similarities than differences. The R320 has a built in memory stick reader and preview screen. The R220 does not. From what I can tell both printers, as well as the R300, all use the same paper profiles. My wife uses the printer much more than I do and is very happy with the results. Except under very close scrutiny with a loupe, the photos we print are indistinguishable from prints from the local lab (except that we have way more control over the output, but you know that). There are several 8x10 photos hanging on the walls and dozens in scrapbooks and photo albums, all from the R320, most printed on Epson Premium Lustre. We paid about $200US for ours, but I believe the price has come down a little since then. You should be able to score an R200 for under $100. Amazon has better ink prices on the Epson branded ink than just about anyone else.
This might help: http://www.epson.com/cmc_upload/0/000/048/181/R320_FamComparison.pdf B and H has the R220 for about $80. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=395436&is=REG&addedTroughType=search If you need any specifics just let me know. If you want, I'll be happy to print out a couple photos and mail them to you.
