Evidentially AOL is poised to do this too.

Or something very similar. They plan to charge big companies a fee to send ads. Which will make it hard for activist groups and other poorer groups to send email to AOL accounts.

I supported AOL Canada for 3.5 years (Ran about 80% of their dial gear, as well as their interim DSL backend). They're good for people who want email and protection from the wilds of the internet, but that's about it. Only way I'd ever have an AOL account is if I had kids, I'd make them use it (AOL's content blocking is excellent, it's great for young kids)but i certainly wouldn't.
