Couldn't tell you how it compared, but I had a Vivitar "VMC" 24mm 2.8 Vivitar manual focus lens. I bought it new maybe 11 years ago. It performed pretty well: good contrast and flare resistance, but I was less critical with photography then and couldn't tell you anything about "across the frame sharpness." It seemed pretty good stopped down the way I was using it. I bought it about a month before a week-long trip to the Grand Canyon for the sole purpose of sweeping landscapes and only used it stopped way down.
I sold it about 10 months ago on eBay for around US$35. The focus ring got a little wonky but still focused fine.
