I feel really sorry for you, I really do. As I alluded to earlier in the day, I
used to be a "professional" (not a photographer, but a member of a bona fide
profession), one which is perceived by the general public as being extremely
competitive within its ranks, and very ambitious and obnoxious generally.
The reality is, however, one can succeed and do quite nicely by being proficient
at what you do. If one is competitive, it suffices to be competitive with
yourself rather than being competitive with others.
Now, I'm not talking about a bit of friendly competition (that's fine), but what
you describe is simply not necessary to succeed anywhere. There are
unfortunately, however, enough people like yourself who think it is necessary, to
make working in that particular field most unpleasant - and needlessly so.
It seems to me that there are times that you also need a favour done for you by a
fellow professional. If you've spent your whole time "whipping their arses", how
many of them will lend a hand when you need it?
No, I'm not a professional photographer, nor do I aspire to be one. If it's
anything like the way you describe it, it would suck the joy out of taking
pictures! I'm quite happy to retain my "amateur status", thank you.
regards,
frank
