Weird that Pentax didn't fix that obvious
design flaw when they brought out the 1p.

Well, the main problem is there's not a lot of material there. It looks like they couldn't move the battery more into the body, and I for one am glad they did not enlarge the grip: I find the Z-1 big enough as it is. And alumininium or magnesium for the base plate was probably too expensive...

Anyway, a crack sounds better that a missing part, but I'll take this off-list :o)

Incidentely, I'm hesiant to ask, but how would the
state of the base plate
of your PZ-1p be? Any cracks near the battery door?
