The "nameplate" as you call it, IS the brand. That's what a brand is. It's the name under which the product is sold. So we have one mount, and two (AF) brands.
I knew you would say that! :-) And I have to agree you're correct.
As for the rest, I think you underestimate the power of your own voice. The person who started this thread said he had read that Pentax was in financial difficulties. How many other people have read one of Herb's posts and believed it? According to Herb's prognostications, Pentax went bust six months ago.
My memory may not be too good, but I honestly don't remember Herb saying what you just wrote. He was negative in outlook but I think there was a lot of overreacting to his viewpoint.
