It's for the so-called "macro" function that all A 70-210/4's (as far as I know) have. It functions at the 70mm FL setting, and allows magnification to 1/4x. (It's better, both in resolution and higher magnification - 1/2.7x - also at 70mm in the 35-70/4.) Fred
