Any 16x drive currently on the market should write Dual-Layer, It's the
8x's that may or may not. I've got a Lite-On internal 16x that writes
Dual-Layer and a LaCie 8x external that does as well (The LaCie is an
NEC mechanism)

various formats are. I work with a wide range of devices using
different formats and formats vary amongst my clients.
Good luck,

I've only one computer that can use an external DVD drive, and it's the
same computer for which I'm looking to upgrade the internal drive. What
about the Plextor makes it better than your internal drive?

Earlier this year, I purchased a Plextor PX-716UF --- and external
drive --- which, to date, I am very impressed with. I move it
from computer to computer as required with out any problem. I
accepted various media without any problems. I like it better than
any of the internal DVD drives that came with my computers. If they
make an equivalent internal unit, I'd surely recommend looking at
it.
