Spec out a similar pro notebook (Firewire, GigE, SATA drive, X1600 128MB video, DVI out, Dual Core CPU) and it will come in the same ballpark. Display size is more a factor of intended use than one of price point. Apple has never been outragous for pricing in the Pro market.

My Thinkpad from work cost what a mid-range 15" Powerbook did last year, with significantly lower spec for the most part (14" display, Radeon 9200 32MB, 802.11b, 40GB 5400rpm drive, Combo drive in comparison to the PowerBook's 15" widescreen 802.11g, Radeon 9600 128MB, 60 or 80GB drive and Superdrive DVD burner).
