I have made several books using iPhoto and been satisfied with the quality. It's not the finest, but quite good enough for a lot of work. I would suggest doing a test first, with photos similar to what you are going to put in the finish version, to learn what is needed to make the kind of quality you're looking for or whether it is appropriate to the task. I did two identical test books, three weks apart, with images designed to allow me to calibrate the process. Comparing them showed me the variability in the process and also what I needed to be aware of to optimize image adjustments for this printing process.

The quality level passes well for "family scrapbook" and "event commemorative" level work. A professional wedding album presentation might prove to be too much for this printing process, but it might be satisfactory for some clients.

Other vendors have come into the market since Apple started doing this. I believe they are all using the same or similar printing process so quality is likely quite similar on the printing end. They might have other options and pricing that are more suitable, however.

Has anybody used iPhoto Book printing service or any other similar service?

I was considering using iPhoto Book service for printing out
a wedding photo-album for my sister-in-law, - an album that includes
variety of pictures quckly arranged together digitally (instead of
printing out photos separately and then assembling them in an album)
and is hard-bound, looking nicely as a coffee-table book.

But then I searched for reviews.
Some review from 2002 said that the quality was so-so.
Somebody else wrote the quality had improved since the early years.
Someone else suggested that sharedink.com has a better quality.
Then I found a few other similar shops (e.g. www.imagestation.com).

All thoughts and suggetions are appreciated.
