Subject: 35mm lenses and digital bodies

Hi guys,

I'm considering an *ist DL body, as I've got a few pentax lenses to use on it. But I don't get this "lens factor" I've seen mentioned, that seems to indicate my A28mm won't be a28mm on a digital body. What's the situation with non-digital lenses on digital bodies?

Yer 28mm lens is still a 28mm lens. Don't matter what camera body it is on.
The Pentax DSLRs are a different format, though it uses the same K mount as their 35mm film cameras.
It's smaller, therefore it sees less of what the lens projects.
On the DSLR, a lens around 28-35mm is "standard", 28 is a bit on the wide side of mormal, 35 is a bit longish. If you are used to thinking in terms of what a lens sees on full frame 35mm film, multiply the focal length of a lens by about 1.5 (someone will have the exact number, I don't know it offhand), and you will then know what it's field of view will be closest to, were you shooting 35mm full frame.

As an example, your 28mm lens on a DSLR will have a field of view fairly close to that of what a 42mm lens has on 35mm full frame (28x1.5).
