Remember how novices and non-photographers will tend to use the camera: they won't read the manual. They'll see little pictures and just try them. If they like the result, life is good, if not, they'll try a different one. No need to actually understand how they work, eh? That's why they have little pictures on them...

That's what is meant by "simple" ... without reading or understanding. ;-)
