B&H Photo has a couple of these in "NEW" never used condition complete
with 50mm and 28-70mm lenses for $179.00. (I was curious as to what the
beast looked like).

Interesting. I regard Samsung quite highly.
I use a Samsung PDA phone that was released in limited quantities
back in
early 2004 that incorporates a Palm OS driven camera, phone, MP3 player
(I was listening to music from an SD card in my phone last year), other
apps, and full sync compatibility with my computer.
Samsung is a big sponsor for Chelsea Football Club over here, and they
are currently top of the league.
I would say that Samsung is well regarded in the UK...
Anyone here remember the Samsung SR4000 film SLR camera? It was
Samsung's first, last, and only SLR camera. Unfortunately they chose
a proprietary bayonet mount for the camera and nothing else is
compatible. The normal lens was a Schneider Kreuznach 50mm, and there
were a couple of zooms. Since I collect oddball cameras, I have one
of these and all three of the lenses. It was actually a very high
quality product, but unfortunately priced much too high to make much
of an impression on the market. It quietly faded into the sunset.
The camera was made when Samsung still owned Rollei, and there was
originally going to be a Rollei SLR built on the same chassis. But
that project died when the two companies parted ways.
This experience may have scared Samsung away from trying a digital SLR
on their own, and thus the teaming up with Pentax.
