I use both zooms and primes, but the zoom I use most is the FA20-35,
which in the case of the *ist DS is a lens between a "wide" and a
"normal". It's useful in that it all three of my favorite street
shooting primes (35, 40 and 50mm field of views on film format) all
in one lens, and gives a touch more coverage at the wide end. When I
am using a zoom, I tend to hover around the same focal length for
many shots at a time. The zoom becomes a convenience to have several
different field of view options without carrying so many lenses,
rather than a shot by shot adjustment.
The bottom line is to develop a style that you're comfortable with....
Yes. I spent a good bit of the afternoon shooting with Marco. We
often made photos of the same subject. He was using a 77mm and a
135mm (that I noticed) where I was using the 20-35 and 50mm most of
the time. I will be interested to see some of what he captured with
regards to how it differed from my own take on the subject.
