I would have to say that I would rather have what little internal volume
must be devoted to the logic instead devoted to providing more juice.

Agreed - at least, that makes sense.

Well, the plan here is to have backups ready from the get-go, and replace
them when they show half-full (as soon as convenient).  Hopefully, I won't
end up finding out how many shots I can take when the indicator says
"empty" - finding "n" would require "n+1" attempts - <g>.
