there are quite a few people who shoot flight with a 600mm, just not with a
20D. that is why i said it.

Well, duh.... Anything bigger than a 400/5.6 is not a practical flight
lens. Personally I find the 300/4 with 1.7x TC to be ideal for
weight/size/reach. BTW, I was only providing personal experience, not
preaching dogma.
