Subject: printers

So yesterday I spent most of my spare moment scouring the web for information and visited four of the local dealers, concentrating on the Epson R2400 and HP 8750. Both of these printers have the features I want, are reasonably sized and approachably priced. (I looked briefly at the Canon i9900 as well, but I didn't see much positive about its B&W printing quality which is so important to me.)

Personally I quite dislike the Epson photo printers I have had because of their general 'fussiness' in (operation although results are excellent) and even tried a CIS system on the 1270 once. Currently I'm using a Canon i990 and can't speak too highly of it - results are good, *extremely* fast, problem free and simple to refill carts. You'll need to see for yourself what the B&W results are like though as this isn't
my scene.

One of the friendly local shops here had both available, set up for printing, so I installed the software on my laptop and tested making several prints with both, one color file and one B&W file, on two/ three paper types ... Epson Enhanced Matte, Epson Premium Glossy, HP Premium Plus Glossy, HP Premium Plus Matte, Kodak Matte Medium Weight.
