It's not "extremely high". This lens sells for £1,209 new. People are quite happy to pay up to 70% or 80% of new price if it's something they want, and the item is rare. Examples are many of the FA primes, especially the 20mm up until recently, the 85mm 1.4, the 24-90, and either of the 200mm lenses. The 16-45 is also going for much more than 50% of new price, as are the Ltds.

The price is extremely high, even for the UK. The last I saw in my local shop was 399.
