I don't know about the exact numbers but I agree that
the technology definitely reduces lost shots. That's
why I don't agree with PENTAX removing the AE technology
from K/M lenses without any compatability issues
causing it. 

You'l loose more shots from no AF than your pseudo issue.
Unless you really can't operate a camera to begin with, that is.
