Shel =========== Yes, that is definitely one of the reason I bought the little Optio. Spot something, take a shot, come back later for more serious exploring with a more serious camera.

So far I haven't done that, but only had it about a week. However, I have now taken some candids of Mom in various situations. Snapshots, but it records her. I will have a record.

Yes, the little cameras make a big difference to getting the shot when the most important part is having the camera "be there." But don't underestimate the capabilities of the little p&s digitals, either. Although they have their limitations (and I can't think of *any* camera type that does not!) they can actually be used for the serious exploration of many subjects.
