This makes a lot of sence, Bruce. Thansk for sharing.
I may consider getting a P-TTL flash for daytime falsh photography - that is
for portraits, when the sun is bright.

(I already own about 10 flash units, some of which I use as a portable stobe
outfit (several hammerhead Metz flashes + two OSRAM 340 flashes for
background lighting).
I normlly use a Metz 60, a AF280T, or one of two Metz 32's or a AF500FTZ
(the latter is technically owned by my employer) for on camera flashes. I
actually never liked using flashes. It's quite ironic, that I happen to own
this many anyway :-)
Shooting in studio conditions is a different matter - I love it.

Hello Jens,

I can understand what you are wanting here. For DSLR's everyone has
gone to a pre-flash technique for their TTL metering. I prefer
regular TTL. When the ambient light is high and the flash is just a
fill, the pre-flash doesn't seem to cause too many problems. When the
light is lower and the flash becomes more of a main light, I switch to
an old analog Pentax TTL flash (AF400T, AF280T) and shoot TTL. I
usually have to set the body compensation to about -2 when I do this.
I am always shooting manual mode at that point so the compensation
only affects the flash output.

I guess what I am saying is that to use any later body than the PZ-1p,
like the *istD, DS, I use two different flash systems. In both cases
I usually shoot manual mode.

HTH,

Bruce
