Not if you have a smart enought charger. MAHA & Lacie both claim that you can leave a set of batteries in the charger all the time. In fact it's been a long time since I used a charger where you couldn't leave the batteries in the charger after the charging was complete. The dumb ones just turn themselves off when the "ready" light comes on; the smart chargers monitor the state of the cells, and keep them topped up.
