Hmmm. The RRP around here for the D-FA is approximately 2.5x what I
mentioned in the start of this thread...
i find the D-FA much easier to use, although it isn't as ruggedly built.
So, it's not too light? I often find it easier to hold the camera steady
with a somewhat heavier lens...

So, at this point I am really choosing between the F/FA (which could
be found used) and D-FA (which is unlikely to be found used at a price
suffiently lower than a new one, if at all): price vs. weight.
