That's what I think too, though I've had this lens
completely torn down 3 times and everything looks
perfect.
It was 100% like new when I got it, not even any
scuff marks on the mount ring from repeated use.
The wierdest part is that it has some worst
contrast in back lit situations of any of my SMC
lenses when wide open.
Yet the coatings are clearly visible and don't
appear damaged in any way.
Very puzzling.
