Actually, I think the Paradors were set up in 1928, but many of the
buildings are of great age, bought for a song by the state when Spain was
impoverished. There are cheaper (and perfectly good) hotels, but the
slight premium you pay for a Parador is well worth it in my opinion. So I
second the suggestion.
Spain is still pretty hot in September. I should avoid the temptation to
try and do too much.
