I have got quiet a few of the Pentax Manual A lens and as my eye sight gets worse with age I find it more difficult to focus the manual lens on the ist D. I have read about interchangeable focus screens being available.

Was wondering

1. Which interchangeable focus screen would be best.
2. Where would I purchase one from
3. Could I change it myself, if so any one know where I would get instructions to do this. Or is it a professional job.

The screens available from Pentax are essentially the same as the stock screen with some additional scribed lines as compositional aids. Yes, they are user-serviceable and come with instructions. In the US, I ordered the LL60 "Divided Matte" screen direct from Pentax USA. This is a screen with scribed reference lines, H&V, useful for aligning horizons and vertical elements.

Tekade.de produced a short run of screens with split-image rangefinder focusing aids, but I don't think they're making them any more. They have some problems with spot metering accuracy.

A useful accessory to aid focusing, particularly when working on a tripod, is a Pentax Magnifier FB. It gives you a 2x enlargement of the central portion of the viewfinder and then flips out of the way for framing purposes. I find it useful occasionally when using a 14mm to 24mm lens even when shooting hand held.
