No, it's just me in zombie mode again. It's the focus mode switch. If
it is set to single autofocus, the shutter cannot be tripped unless the
subject is in focus. If you have a manual focus lens fitted, it will
fire when the subject (in the focus frame) comes into focus as you turn
the focus ring, if you keep the shutter button pressed.
Trap focus works by prefocusing on a place where you expect the subject
to be, holding the shutter button down (usually with a remote cable) and
waiting for it to get there. If you have multiple shot drive enabled,
it will fire every time something passes through the focus frame in
focus. Focus mode switch in single autofocus, manual focus lens.
In theory, it's a useful way of working but it has a number of problems.
Not least of which is the camera's decision as to what is, or is not,
in focus. There are also the need to accurately predict where the
subject will be, shutter delay, etc, etc.
So, to refer to the subject, as we so rarely do here, I don't think one
can trap focus with AF lenses unless there is some way of switching AF
off on the lens.
