It seems obvious to me that the retailer is trying sell the camera for the highest profits they can and will lower the price when it appears on other's shelves. The list price is predicted to be under $800.00 with the 18-55mm lens. I expect when it's available from more outlets the 699 Eur price will drop precipitously.

I'm wondering if something else is afoot. It seems unlikely to me that
Pentax would spend such an effort to create a new body that's only 4% less
in price, but with some significant feature differences.

Perhaps they're planning on eliminating the DS and D, and introducing two
new bodies: one ~$1,000+ 8MP body with the features of the DS and another
even higher up the ladder, say $2,000+, with more "pro" like features
similar to the "MZ-D"?

I am not sure if I am getting your idea, Shel.

If I am ready to spend at least 700 EUR in a camera
(and I am not including memory card, batteries, etc) I
can't see why just a 4% more is going to prevent me
from buying a better model.

Maybe you are referring to those who care about
absolute figures only? Even in that case, it still
seems too low to make any difference.

Probably the people to whom 30EUR makes a BIG

I have just checked the ist DL price in tekade.de,
since it is still not available in Spain.
Well, it is 699 EUR body only, this is just 30 EUR
less than the DS body only so...
Who is going to buy a downgraded model for such a
small difference???
