I'm wondering if something else is afoot. It seems unlikely to me that Pentax would spend such an effort to create a new body that's only 4% less in price, but with some significant feature differences.
Perhaps they're planning on eliminating the DS and D, and introducing two new bodies: one ~$1,000+ 8MP body with the features of the DS and another even higher up the ladder, say $2,000+, with more "pro" like features similar to the "MZ-D"?
