In Oz you'd also have liability and indemnity in the back of your mind as the equipment lender. If it were an optical slave flash I would probably have said yes (as the pro-photographer) but if someone had to physically plug-in to my gear I don't think I would have agreed however I wouldn't have been rude about it either.
