Thank you, good people, for your comments. You helped me realize that the reason for my reservations about this photographs was not the DOF but the tonality. So the specific part of the question was wrong after all.
I like this shot so I'll play with it a bit before making a print. I believe it should be possible to get it lighter a bit without loosing details on the white paint or getting the wood planks in front to bright.
