Paul, this is an excellent shot in my lurker opinion. I like the light on the girl's skirt; it has an interesting effect on the denim that makes it look more 'vintage' to me.
Like others have said, the look in the boy's eyes is what really makes this photo. The cars in the background behind his head are slightly jarring/distracting, but I guess that was something that you couldn't really do anything about.
