- When the shutter is released and after the mirror is back in place, I hear a sound like a spring resonating. Is this normal?
I'm imagining a 'boing" sound - I have had two Pz-1p's (down to one now) and have not heard that. But every camera makes slightly different sounds and everyone's ears hear slightly different things.... If the sound is not overtly loud (like louder than the mirror slap) and everything seems to be working OK, I would not worry.
- The winder speed is impressive (as is the 1/250 sync speed, the factor that excited my curiosity in the first place) but as the film progressed it became noticeably slower. Is that normal? I was more or less machine-gunning, which is not my normal way of shooting at all, but thought to ask if it's a known tell-tale.
Even when not rapid firing, I notice a slight change in the sound of how the film advances as the last few frames are pulled out. But I also notice this on my Mz-S and the Pz-70 and Pz-20 I used to have. I suspect that it is harder to pull film out at the end of the roll. In any event, it does not sound like something to worry about, especially if you have been 'machine gunning' a whole roll - in which case you hit the end of the roll when the batteries are perhaps flagging. The slow down seems more pronounced as batteries get low, so you might want to change out the batteries. One nice thing about the PZ-1p - it can go a long time on a single battery. Unlike the Mz-S, which ruthlessly chews down batteries even when it isn't doing anything). I guess it is not fair to compare any film camera to a digital, since digital seems to need a lot more juice, and that's before you factor in the "I can take all the photos I want to" factor...
Personally, I've gone back to the Pz-1p for the very limited 35mm film work I do these days. The MZ-S and LX are both outstanding, but the similarity in design ethic between the Pz-1p and the *ist-D makes it easier to switch between the two.
