I don't know if it's a problem of the DSLRs only or common among
the digital P&S too - it happens (not always, more once in a
while) when you shot in very low light situations (and high ISO)
and seems to be present on other brands cameras as well (I saw a
post about banding on a Nikon vs. a Canon body).
It seems to be a odd but "normal" behaviour...

I have only seen digital "graininess" (noise) at low light levels; the only banding I've ever seen is on output from my Craposcan. Grrrr.
