i had the Tamron. i found the Sigma one better, but it doesn't work with as
many lenses, and still gives strange bokeh.

The two to consider are the Kenko (Tokina) 1.5X AF and the Tamron 1.4X
AF. Both are quite similar - I have used both at one time or another.
I currently have the Kenko. It will work with any lens and does
support full AF.
