For anyone who would like to try/use mirror lockup and do it cheaply there are several cameras available for little money that have "pseudo mirror lockup". In modern terms it's called "mirror pre-fire" just like on the ist-D. Set the self timer then hit the shutter release, the mirror goes up, the aperture stops down, then after however many seconds the shutter fires. Some of the cameras that have this are the older K mount Ricohs and Chinons that have a **Mechanical** self timer. The electronic self timer models don't work this way. Ricoh KR-5, KR-5 Super, KR-5superII, KR-5III, Chinon CM-7 to mention a few. There are probably others. They're all rather nice small, simple, manual exposure cameras too. My only suggestion would be to be sure the seller will guarantee a working camera if you buy a KR-5 or KR-5 Super, some of them have a shutter that fails at speeds above 1/125th or so. It can be fixed but it's a real pain.
