well, my alternative to carrying the FA* 28-70 frequently is carrying the 
set of Limiteds, so it's even more expensive, but i do that only when i know 
i need the speed and am willing to deal with the hassle of changing lenses, 
or i know that i won't need to change very often.

Too late now - and it's probably more expensive as well. I have settled 
fpr
the Tokina 2.6-2.8/28-70mm insted of the obvious choise - the FA*
2.8/28-70mm, which has a list price her at 3000 USD (OUTCH). I paid 250 +
taxes for the Tokina. My next lens will probably still have a name that
includes a "14" or "18" mm.
