I've owned the Olympus C8080WZ and worked with the C5050 and C5060. I would recommend a Konica Minolta A2 over all three of the above. Much more logical, useful control layout, 28-200mm (equivalent) zoom, a lens which is just as good, the best EVF in any currently available camera, and a huge amount of features that a photographer can make serious use of.

Unfortunately, I get the feeling from Leon's post that his wife is looking for a compact camera, which none of the above are.

I hear good things about the Olympus Camedia 7070 and 8080. They're a
bit pricier than the Canon, but they definitely get good reviews. I'm
also partial to the Olympus build quality over the Canon (in general).

Hi all,

My wife is currently looking to spend her work's money on a new digital
camera. She wants to buy Pentax, but one of the requirements is a 28mm
equivalent lens and no Pentax go that wide. It's a shame as most
people who ask me about cameras want to be able to take scenery and
groups of people inside - both are easier to do with a lens that goes
to 28mm.

It's currently looking like she will buy a Canon S70 unless someone can
suggest a better alternative.
