As usual comments are welcome but may be totally ignored.
Peter, there is one thing that distracts me. This is two poles in the background. My eyes are led around the boat to its nose and zap - the poles - what a disappointment to my weary morning eyes :).
May I ask you - how heavy is the lens? Seriously. You see, even if you set it to 400 mm it is still 600 mm lens by weight :). So your 1/1500 sec speed is good, but it could be that you simply did not hold it *that much* firm... Unless you used a tripod, but you did not seem to have mentioned that.
Julia suggested that since the boat is standing on water - there could be some blur induced by its motion on the waves... She also thinks that the photograph is quite fine and that I did not wake up properly today. Well, if you permit, I'd go reboot myself :).
