thanks for posting that article. I haven't had chance to do anything more
than skim it, but it looks quite interesting.

Well, at the risk of sounding like a know-it-all (Heaven forbid!), I've been
banging on to people about this for years, recommending them to study and
learn about 2-dimensional design and composition in all its forms, not just
photography. It is the discipline that underpins so many different things,
not just photography but also painting, page layout, poster design, etc.
etc.

I don't understand what you mean by this. You are making a picture of
something. That's what photography is. Otherwise, what is the something you
are making?
