I paid about that much for my SMC Takumar 500mm. A very heavy unit. I have used it rarely, but like having it as part of my SMC Takumar lens collection. I would like the 1000mm SMC Takumar.

The 1000mm is sharp at close-focusing distances. I tried 35m (min. d is 30m) and 250m and both pics were good. Rarely will this lens be able to be used at infinity and my guess is that it was designed to yield better results at close or rather close-focusing distances. It also shows normal amount of CA for this type of lens.
