This will be heresy to some, but on a three-week trip to Hong Kong and China last year I took (and used them all) only three lenses: 18-35, 28-105 and 70-210. Wasn't using digital at that time, and I found they covered just about everything I wanted to shoot. The wide-angle zoom was especially useful on trains, in restaurants, and in some cramped interiors. The 70-210 has a usefully close focus, even enabling me to get a shot of a bee feeding on a flower.
I carried the lot in a waist-bag, plus spare film, flash and batteries, and never suffered at all from the weight (which is a consideration when you're also sometimes having to carry your pack as you move from town to town).
I'd say forget the TC's as well, but only if you have something a little longer than you're 90.

Subject: would you leave your favorite lens at home?

Everyone, I'm trying to finalize my kit for London and I've
hit a snag.
Here's the kit I'm planning to take to London:

*istD
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8
Tam 1.4x and 2x TCs
Sigma 15mm fisheye

I'm trying to figure out if I should take my Tam 90mm macro
with me. I put it in the bag and it makes it significanly
heavier, and I'll have to lug it around everywhere for a
week. But I'm afraid that I'll regret it if I leave it at
home, since it's one of my most-used lenses. Nate says I
should just bring it, but he carries 5 lenses with him everywhere.

So, would you leave one of your favorite lenses at home if it
made your kit significantly lighter? I can kind of cover the
macro with all the other stuff I'm bringing, but the Tam 90
is such a great lens...

Thanks,
Amita
