I'll give you my examples: with a vivitar 105mm macro and 50mm f1.7 lens I
needed to focus as close as possible to avoid vigneting. If I reversed a
24mm lens, i needed to add more extension. With the 200/4 and a reverse
mounted 100mm bellows lens, regardless of how close i focused the 200mm i
needed to add more extension. Even more was required when reversing the
50mm on the 200mm

See above examples. I always shot stopped down to at least f11, mostly f16,
to get as much DOF as possible. When you add extension, you lose light so
you (or your camera's meter) will have to compensate. I always shot using
TTL flash with the LX or *ist D in manual mode.

Is the rear element on the FA 100/2.8 fixed or it moves depending on the
focus ? I see that the built-in extension on

The reason you have to add more extension is because of the combination you
are trying. as Jostein, myself and John Shaw suggest, not all combinations
work. My favorite was the 100mm SMCP bellows lens reversed on the 200mm
SMCP-A f4 lens. I added about 24mm of extension (the middle tube). (2x
life size)

flash

The beauty of this combo is that both lenses have a 52mm thread and I had a
male-male 52mm reversing ring. The next favorite was the 200/4 with a 50mm
SMCP-M f1.7 lens reversed. I needed the 32mm extension tube to avoid
vignetting at f16. (4x life size)

BTW, make sure the reversed lens is WIDE OPEN.

I used the Vivitar auto extension tube set that have full meter and aperture
coupling. They don't make them anymore but i believe the Kenko tubes are
the same (they LOOK identical).
