aside from the air bubble problem mentioned by someone else, it may be that the head itself is defective in that the driver piezo crystals are not working quite right or they are overheating. lower end Epson printers are very problem prone.

After I flushed the nozzles I did some test prints and the first 2
came out great. I thought to myself "You little ripper". Of course the
third print the problem was back. I very nearly threw the thing of the
desk at that point. :-)
