Boris, you also might want to ask him if he's doing any "in camera" processing as far as saturation, sharpening etc. Also are you trying to compare your digital images to similar film images? I prefer Velvia when I shoot film and consequently when processing digital images I try to give them a Velvia look (more saturated). Could be, this is the main reason I am kind of pushing me into the corner here... Second of, I do apply some USM or some high-pass sharpening. However many people told me quite many times that my photos are a bit on a soft and low contrast side. I do like softer (not tack sharp from USM) and relaxed in contrast images... May be, this kind of preference is passe this days :).
