New to the list...looks to be a valuable tool in my forays into takumar land...
Anyone know anything about a sort of adhesive that holds the last 2 elements together in the Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 35mm f/3.5? I got one with fungus and took the last lens off, to see that it sort of tore away from the next one leaving a dried residue that was not previously visible, what I think was some sort of glue. I've resorted to scraping it off but can't get it all...would acetone work? Ideas?
Stop, stop, stop! No scraping! (shudder)
Use a solvent such as acetone to soak the lens and remove the rest of the cement. It could take some tiime and you may have to try other solvents. Even water. You are going to have to do some research regarding rebuilding the lens group. It's nowhere near as simple as just sticking them together. There are a number of parameters, one of which is element alignment, that you are going to have to get right before it will function as well as it can. Then you will need to decide if you are going to use a historically accurate cement or a more up to date material. Time to start reading....
