when i am in the field shooting birds, the camera is on constantly and 
frequently in continuous focus mode. i typically go through at least one set 
of batteries in a couple of hours. i have a RRS B-16 adapter instead. it 
attaches and removes from both the tripod and the camera with a twist of the 
wrist.

Herb, with the current battery life I'm experiencing, I change batteries
about every
900 or so images, for me that's way more than I've ever shot in one day. I
carry a selection of Allen head wrenches anyhow. Considering I couldn't 
get
RRS or Kirk to make a custom L plate for the *istD, I'll live with the
battery "inconvenience" before I'll go with out the L plate advantage..
