I haven't used either the *ist D or the kit lens, but I have been very happy with my Zenitar 16/2.8. Full frame, it's a fairly specialized lens that I don't use all that often, though. It has exhibited a lot less flare than I expected when I bought it. TTYL, DougF KG4LMZ
