Most people are satisfied with the "regular" quality given by the A. It's hard to see a zoom is below average unless there is a point of comparison.
That may be true... Howsome, John is hardly a novice and knows what he's looking at. He more often shoots with primes, and is pretty darn picky. But he happens to like the A35-70 for one reason or another.
